Sartre vs. Nietzsche
Friedrich Nietzsche and Jean-Paul Sartre are two famous atheists with so many things in common that make it difficult to note the differences. The topics that make them so similar such as morality, religion, and freedom, also bring out the lack of harmony in their work. Some of the notable similarities in their work are the concept of free will because they refute the existence of God. They both champion self-consciousness and self- creations to the level that we need. However, the two schools of thought start at the same point but tend to diverge when it comes to the evidence put forward. The essay seeks to evaluate the differences between Nietzsche and Sartre's opinions on morality, religion, and freedom.
On religion, Nietzsche is more pessimistic than Sartre is about the ideas of God and Christianity. It means that Nietzsche was a fiercer critic of Christianity that his counterpart. He introduces the idea that God is dead in his works, "The Gay Science", showing that he made man free of the concept of God (Nietzsche). He rejected the ideologies that Christianity presented but did acknowledge the implications of the lack of it. As Sartre merely dismisses the existence of God, his counterpart does and in-depth discussion. For a student going through both their works, Nietzsche can convince them of the non-existence of God and Christianity altogether. He is radical, using words like "Fuck everything" and other nasty ones. Nietzsche also claims that we are born in a world that is not of our making, and we should free ourselves from it. He historically viewed as a passionate atheist following in the pessimist footsteps of Schopenhauer. Sat gives a dissatisfying view about the existence of God and narrowly provides evidence for his atheism. As proclaimed by Bertrand Russell, we view Sartre's as 'Not enough evidence, God! Not enough evidence' thus, he does not create a strong atheism position. Nietzsche was a strong thinker and proclaimer of the non-existence of God. He has independent thoughts, while Sartre seems to draw his philosophy from the acknowledgment of the existence of God.
Although Sartre and Nietzsche hold the same views on morality, their ideas, and thinking differently, the idea that God died continues to confuse many until today, thus the rise of the question of ethics. Morality, according to Nietzsche, has a basis on Christianity because all codes are religious.
