Getting to know the truth about something can always be challenging. This is because of the difficulty in getting the right methodology to be used in finding out whether the concept is truthful or not. Carl Sagan is one of the brave personalities who moved out of his comfort zones trying to establish the working of scientific methods and particularly critical thinking in lay people. In his book, Sagan seeks to explain scientific how works can de differentiated from those that are not scientific. He argues that skeptical thinking is the criteria that should be used by any person in differentiating works that are scientific and those that are not. However, in his argument, Sagan fails to express that skeptical thinking can help deduce how a concept is scientific or not.
Sagan’s dependency of skepticism thinking as a criterion for determining scientific and nonscientific concepts is unfounded. There is no way skeptical thinking can help find the true position of a concept in as far as science is concerned. Whereas this method would have worked, getting a situation where a person gets skeptical about an idea and try to analyze the idea objective can be quite difficult. This is because skepticism comes with subjectivity. Whereas subjectivity prevails, getting the true position of an idea on a concept can be a thing that is unachievable (Druyan and Sagan 24).
