After the Second World War, recreation and leisure services improved and expanded immensely. There was a growing concern about the environment and how to preserve it. The government emphasized growing the recreation sector to combat discrimination and poverty (Tapps et al.). The programs set up targeted to serve better girls and women, older adults, and individuals with different disabilities. Trends in leisure and recreation will be outlined in the essay.
There has been an expansion of recreation in the modern era. Until the 1970s, Americans were spending a lot of money on leisure activities every year (McLean et al. 95). The American government increased the budget and personnel facilities in 1970. With time, many recreation services were set up in the suburbs, leading to an increased population in the cities. The vast population in the towns posed health problems, housing issues, and high social crimes.
