Should the US Have Universal Health Care? Yes.
To have universal health Care (UHC) means that everyone can afford to see a doctor or get other medical care whenever and wherever they need it. It covers everything from wellness programs, emergency services to long-term care for the terminally ill. The following are required to achieve health for all: universal health coverage; access to quality health services; health workers with the training and compassion to care for patients as individuals rather than just numbers; and political will to fund these programs (World Health Organization). To ensure that no one is driven into poverty due to paying for medical care, UHC would have to make high-quality medical care accessible to all. Therefore, the United States should have Universal Health Care. This paper is going to outline the reasons why the US should have Universal Health Care.
Care for all citizens could be reduced if UHC was implemented. Families in the United States have the most financial difficulty paying for healthcare. Becker's healthcare surveyed 1,000 adults and found that 22% of respondents found it difficult or impossible to pay their medical bills (Wooster School). Costs are reduced, and the uninsured are covered by a universal healthcare system, which appears to be a good idea.
The vast majority of people in the US believe that if there was universal healthcare, lives could be saved. According to the findings of Harvard University researchers, the annual death toll attributable to a lack of access to health care is approximately 44,789. At an annual rate of 44,789 deaths, the uninsured face a staggering 40% higher mortality rate than their insured counterparts. However, another study found that thirteen thousand adults aged between 55 and 64 die yearly due to missing health insurance coverage or access to care. Out of 16 wealthy countries, the United States ranked 16th on an outline of preventable deaths; out of one hundred and ninety-five nations and territories, the US was ranked 29th. Many human lives might have been saved but, regrettably, were not. Countries like France, Australia, and Spain, which provide healthcare to all citizens, have a life expectancy of more than five years higher than the United States (Wooster School). Proponents of national healthcare systems argue that more people lose their lives than they should owe to inadequate medical care.
One of the most apparent benefits of UHC in the US is the possibility of reducing the prevalence of costly non-communicable diseases, like cardiovascular disease, obesity, and type II diabetes.
