The American-Mexican war that took place between 1846 and 1848 had a significant impact on both countries. The war majorly benefited the United States of America against the Mexican government. The US successfully expanded its territory during the war. However, Mexican political and economic systems were weakened, resulting in a disintegrating nation.
America gained by extending its territory and annexing the state of California and New Mexico after signing the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo when the war ceased in 1848. The US territory expanded by 66% after the cessation of the disputed land that was carved out of the Mexican region (Vázquez 361). The new property benefited America who gained by the increase of economic activities in the form of agriculture and mining. The US government also imposed high taxation that increased its revenues.
