The recycling can only be done on biodegradable and recyclable materials such as cardboard and paper. The use of paper contributes to more than 60% of the materials used in packaging products. The biodegradable materials also contribute to the largest levels of water, land, and air pollution. Therefore, Asia has made plenty of efforts to encourage the recycling of primary packages. As well, plastic pollution resulting from food packaging in Asia is high and therefore, initiatives have been implemented to reduce this kind of pollution. Among them is the flexibility in the packaging in order to make it easy for recycling companies to collect the plastics and recycle them. A report from the Food Industry Asia indicates that the recycling of initiatives in Indonesia, Vietnam Thailand, and the Philippines contributes to a reduction of 5% of the total plastic waste contributing to pollution in the areas. A recommendation has been made to the countries to increase the volume of plastic waste that is being recycled rather than burning it. The construction of new landfills is also being discouraged in the case of primary packing, which is recyclable. Not all the primary packaging materials are recycled in the country of origin.
