Religious Beliefs
Many people have diversified beliefs and this led to the introduction of various religious sects into contemporary society. Some people opt to become Lutherans, while others became Calvinists, Anabaptists, or Catholics. This paper discusses the differences and similarities among the beliefs of the mentioned religious groups.
Lutheranism is one of the primary branches of Protestantism. Its followers believed in the modified Christian teachings made by Martin Luther. Generally, their beliefs are centered into this statement—that humans can be saved from since through God’s grace, faith, and Scripture alone, respectively (Hampson).
Catholics differ from Lutherans because the former formidably believes in doing good work to earn God’s salvation while the latter persuades the importance of love and faith rather than good deeds. Traditionally, Catholics follow the Bible as the “Word of the God” and combine it with Church Traditions. On the other hand, Lutherans solely follow the Bible as the foundation of truth. To them, this is absolute (Hampson).
Another major form of Protestantism that followed Luther’s ideologies is Calvinism which is inspired by the French Theologian, John Calvin. Calvinists trust God’s sovereignty in all aspects of life and the concept of predestination. Here, five major philosophies are being followed, namely, total depravity, limited atonement, unconditional election, irresistible grace, and perseverance of saints (Parker).
