The Myanmar Rohingya issue
The Rohingya refugee crisis occurred in 2015. It refers to the migration of people from Myanmar in large numbers. Most of the people moved to South East Asian countries including Malaysia, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Indonesia. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees says that most people lost their lives during the migration. In the view of Human Rights Watch (HRW), THE British ruled Myanmar as a province of India, something which the native population viewed negatively. After its independence in 1948, the government illegalized the migration. The Rohingya population was denied several rights and freedoms such as their citizenship and exclusion from citizenship in the union. Additionally, a city law passed in 1982 failed to include Rohingya as one of the 135 ethnic groups in the country. Also, the law acknowledged three aspects of citizenship, something wh...
