I chose the clip from the film Amelie, a French romantic comedy film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, because of its French flair, especially its whimsical depiction of modern Parisian life. The film narrates the life of a shy, lonely waitress Audrey Tautou who chooses to perform acts of kindness for those around her while struggling with her isolation. She is shown to be an unpretentious and kind lady but cursed with a weird upbringing: her mother was cold-handed while her father was emotionally absent. Jeunet chooses to live in her nirvana of wacky philanthropy and thoughtful exploration to escape her loneliness.
