Hollywood Cinema in The 2010s
For my analysis, I chose a clip from the 2012 American historical drama Lincoln, featuring Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln because it displays an excellent example of the 'Revisiting the Past' concept discussed in the module. Steven Spielberg produced and directed the biographical film, which focused on the 16th president’s efforts at abolishing slavery by soliciting support from the United States House of Representatives to pass the Thirteenth Amendment. The film revisited notable moments in the past that still bear relevance to today's social and political issues. For instance, the film that excelled in revisiting the past was the Gettysburg Address. Lincoln made the famous address extolling America’s principle of freedom and equality while dedicating the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
