Cultures and their Leisure Activities
Ancient societies had their unique forms of recreation and entertainment, which formed part of their cultures. In Ancient Egypt, art, sports, music, dance, games and toys, and storytelling were the forms of entertainment. They used art to describe the concept of life, death, and life after death. Their architecture and construction also displayed the rich artistic culture of Egyptians. Ancient Egyptians valued sports such as wrestling, boxing, rowing, and gymnastics (Hurd et al.). Sports were part of their entertainment during festivals and competitions. Festivals were celebrated by music and dance using instruments like drums, harps, and flutes. Children would play with dolls and toys made of clay or wood. 
In Ancient Greece, arts and athletics formed part of leisure and were enjoyed by the noblemen. Sports such as wrestling, running and leaping, throwing the javelin and discus, boxing and swimming were part of their festivals which lasted approximately seventy days a year. Young children played with dolls, carts, kites, and seesaws. Music festivals tested the art of poetry, theatrical presentations, and playing musical instruments, such as flutes and harps.
