Reflection On Wit by Edison
The video, UVM Medical Center, hosts production of "Wit'' a play by Margaret Edson 09/12/2015WIT F 09122015, was an incredibly powerful and thought-provoking production. This play is based on the life of English literature professor called Vivian Bearing, who was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer (Edson). As the play progresses, Vivian learns to accept her diagnosis and come to terms with her mortality.
The play is also a powerful illustration of the medical profession and how it deals with terminal illnesses. The medical professionals are portrayed as caring, understanding, and willing to do whatever they can to help Vivian (Edson). However, the play also points out the realities of the medical profession and how it can sometimes be difficult for the doctor to communicate effectively with the patient. Vivian's doctor, for example, often speaks in technical terms and cannot effectively explain the treatment options to her. Her talk is a powerful reminder that communication between the patient and the doctor is essential to provide the best care.
The play does an amazing job of highlighting the psychological and emotional journey that patients with terminal illnesses go through (Edson).
