Cloud-based and Client-server Architectures
In the computer world, a cloud refers to a pool of shared information technology resources such as servers, that are accessed via the internet. The resources can also include software or a combination of software and hardware. A cloud-based architecture is composed of all the necessary components in a cloud establishment that users access from their devices through the internet. On the other hand, a client-server architecture entails a computer dedicated to performing various tasks (a server) and multiple endpoints accessing the services offered by the server. The server controls access and computing capabilities of the entire infrastructure.
A cloud-based offers several advantages compared to the client-server architecture (Gupta, Chauhan, Anand, & Dewan, 2014). The setup provides improved speed as the hardware and software components are highly optimized and lower costs for development and deployment of applications. Besides, it is easy to scale the infrastructure accordingly depending on the demands. The infrastructure also offers improved data recovery options and security.
