Advanced registered nurses play a vital role in the United States health system. They are individuals trained in nursing up to the masters or postgraduate level and specialized in their roles, and trained to meet the needs of a given target group. Therefore, they have more skills in handling certain conditions compared to the registered nurses. Initially, the scope of practice of registered nurses was narrow as they were expected to only deal with specific cases affecting their target population. However, recently, the evolving healthcare needs have expanded the role of these advanced practice nurses as they have to deal with other related diseases and create operation teams to handle the more complex patient needs. These changing needs have also attracted legislation and policy changes in the healthcare system that the advanced registered nurses have to deal with. It is, therefore, essential to assess these needs and understand any adjustments that these nurses should undertake. 
Scope of Your Future Role as an Advanced Registered Nurse
The roles of advanced practice registered nurses vary depending on their specialization. The various types of advanced registered nurse practitioners include the certified nurse practitioner (CNP), the clinical nurse specialist (CNS), the certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA), and the certified nurse-midwife (CNM) (NCSBN, 2021). Certified nurse practitioners (CNP) are responsible for health promotion, disease prevention, health education, and counselling. They also participate in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases. The CNPs are trained to serve at the primary care level or a critical care level. Both roles have different national competencies and unique certifications. The clinical nurse specialists are responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of health/illness states. They also manage the disease, engage in health promotion, and prevent illnesses and any risky behavior among the target groups. 
The certified registered nurse anesthetist train to provide patients with anesthesia care and any other care related to anesthesia. They serve a wide range of patients, including those with different levels of acuity in terms of immediate, severe, or critical illnesses. These professionals provide their care in diverse settings and mainly in surgical sites. The certified nurse-midwife offers a range of primary services to women throughout their lifespan. The services they provide include gynecologic care, family planning, prenatal and postpartum care, childbirth, and care of the newborn. They also treat male patients of their female customers for sexually transmitted illnesses and any productive health issues. They provide these services in various settings, including hospitals, birth centers, at home, at the hospital, and in different ambulatory care settings like offices and community health clinics.
