PROMISES AND CONTRADICTIONS
The United States' promises emanate from the innate American dream creed that was foreseen, inspired, and crafted by its founders. It is a belief promising equality, equity, justice, and success for everyone regardless of their origin, color, religion, or sexual orientation. In the creed's spirit, the promises can only be achieved through the government's equal treatment to all people and adopting the inherent American culture of hard work, sacrifice, risk-taking, and innovation rather than luck.
The American promises have far deeper roots with doctrines dating back to the Declaration of Independence, which highlighted equality among all men with assured unalienable rights, including Liberty, Life, and Happiness. James Truslow Adams equates the American dream to a land offering everyone, whether natives or immigrants, a richer, fuller, and better life with equal opportunities according to their achievement levels or ability. The U.S has previously earned its "Melting Pot" nickname due to its openness to immigrants from all over the world, who come with different ideas and cultures to produce discoveries and innovations that benefit them and the United States at large.
Immigrants have in the past positively impacted America's economic growth and development. In return, the U.S. has to a greater extent fulfilled its promise of welcoming immigrants basing on the fact that it is the world's number one country hosting the largest immigrant population. Inscribed in the American dream is the promise that an individual's birth circumstances do not entirely regulate their future, whether immigrant or born American citizen. Hence, numerous people have over the past moved to the U.S., either seeking asylum from their war-torn countries or in search of greener pastures through the Green Card Program. Despite the recent anti-immigration hostilities towards Muslims and Mexicans during President Donald Trump's tenure and slight setbacks on the previous achievements, the United States has generally fulfilled its immigration promise in the past regimes.
