My Experience and Lessons for Participating in A Sporting Event
Located in West London, the Twickenham Stadium is home to all English games within the Six countries. The stadium is owned and managed by the Rugby Football Union, which constitutes rugby’s governing body in England, and is typically affectionately termed HQ by English fans. It commands a longstanding heritage, hosting the first rugby world cup in 1919. A closer look into the historical pictures of the stadium indicated that it had undergone a series of designs and transformations, culminating into the modern-day state-of-art stadium with a capacity of 82,000, making it one of the largest designated rugby stadia globally. The stadium could also house non-sporting events, including rock concerts and domestic rugby events. My experience attending the rugby event revealed several attributes concerning sporting events in general. Sporting events attributes discussed in the essay include the element of fans, authenticity, and the relationship between the place and the person.
The rugby event attracted different spectators, from the increasingly established fanatics to the impartial spectators who showed little interest in the event. The fan profiles were internationally diverse. However, home fans looked classy, implying they derived from higher socioeconomic classes in London and the larger United Kingdom. Because of the global nature of the sporting event, the presence of domestic fans was insignificant, although some designated tickets were freely reserved for residents near Twickenham Stadium.
