In a sports movie or any movie, we expect to see a happily ever after ending for the protagonists, but Bad News Bears is a baseball movie wherein the protagonists are constantly losing. I thought that the movie would be dull, but after watching it, I realized that it kept me entertained. I knew that it was a sports movie, and I am not that fond of it, so it happened to be a factor in my expectation that it would be dull. Although the events were foreseeable, it was still a good one. Bad News Bears is a movie with the theme of perseverance, and it is a movie about winning by not quitting.
Lombardi once said that “winners never quit, and quitters never win.” (BrainyQuote.com). The characters in the movie were all determined to win, but because of the flaws of the coach and the players, winning has become increasingly difficult. Moreover, because of the continuous loss, most players thought of giving up, but as their coach, Mr. Buttermaker, said, “This quitting thing, it’s a hard habit to break once you start” (Ritchie). Mr. Buttermaker came back to his senses and reminded everyone that they would not be able to win if they quit. I was moved by the character improvements shown in the movie. The coach was a drunkard, and the players knew nothing about baseball, and they were all too childish, but in the latter part of the movie, the coach started to train the kids, and he even adde...
