Over the past decade, the spread of information technology has rapidly increased due to its application in various areas of our lives. The most dramatic change is the emergence of the internet and social media. From people posting their pictures on Facebook to people constantly checking Twitter and Instagram to get the latest insights from news outlets or favorite personalities, social media has changed people's behavior and how they communicate with each other. According to research conducted in the United States, social media addiction is stronger than booze and cigarette addiction (O'Keeffe et al., 803). If uncontrolled by guardians or parents, teens are more likely to get addicted to social networks, leading to psychological problems such as social isolation and time wastage.
Social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are all methods that connect people as they share their lives with others. One can post their pictures, type their status to inform their family and friends, and followers various information based on their preference. Adults, for example, can post pictures of their latest family trips, special events, and other activities. On the other hand, teens can share images of their birthday parties, latest dance moves, or any other social activity. In essence, social media compels individuals to share their personal lives with the world, and sometimes, without the user's realization, it often leads to addiction.
