The youths are faced with several problems arising in their course of growing and maturity. These problems include issues arising from ego identity and role diffusion. Even though the issues that prevailed during the feudal times among children and adolescents still exist, there have been massive social improvements noted. The essay will detail all concepts surrounding childhood delinquency, social improvements enjoyed by the teens, and a retrospect into the life of children during feudal times and after the 17th century.
The youths are faced with massive dilemmas and problems as they maneuver through their teenage years. The negative effects of modern life in America and the social problems facing American society have played a significant role in causing problems among the youths. During their youthful stage, youths go through many trials and uncertainties, which exposes them to emotional imbalances, anxiety, mood swings, and humiliation (Siegel and Welsh 4). Between ages sixteen and nineteen, youths experience ego identity and role diffusion.
Ego identity occurs when youths start to identify and understand themselves and their different stands. The youths start to develop a robust sense of their personality. On the other hand, role diffusion starts when the youths develop confusion in terms of personal uncertainties, leading them to place themselves at the mercy of people they consider more superior or powerful. These people often promise to give them an identity sense that they cannot build for themselves (4).
American youths are faced with several issues, including adolescent poverty. More than thirty-seven million Americans are still engraved in poverty (6). Secondly, the youths are at an elevated risk of health problems, such as chronic illnesses. Family problems such as divorce are also likely to affect the youths, as they are more likely to grow in poverty when left under the care of only one parent. Other specific problems facing the youth include poor living conditions and inadequate access to education (6-7).
Amid the several problems faced by youths in America, some social improvements have been recorded. These improvements include a decrease in the rates of teenage births, closer interactions of the youths with their parents, and a decline in the risk of health problems among children born today compared to the 1990s (29). Additionally, there has been an increase in the number of youths who complete high school successfully (29).
