The increasing competition across the different economic sectors around the world accounts for the increased use of advanced information and communication technology by business organizations in the United States and other global markets (Ragowsky et al., pg. 11). Firms are currently utilizing advanced technologies in carrying out market research and analysis to identify new and emerging opportunities, which creates a competitive edge over other organizations. However, maintaining sustainable growth and development within a given economic sector or industry depends on a firm’s ability to understand consumer trends and behaviors. The use of big data is particularly important in understanding customer preference and purchase behavior. Information systems present organizations with a perfect tool they can use to analyze big data to obtain important information about customers (Anshari et al., pg. 3). The firm’s management information system thrives on its integration of the data collected from the customer relationship management applications to the organization’s information system as a whole (Demir, pg. 11). Amazon’s information system consists of both customer relationship and enterprise resources management systems working hand in hand to deliver on the firm’s objectives (Demir, pg. 11). The consumer information such as personal details, purchasing behavior, reactions, feedback, and complaints are collected though CRM and integrated with the firm’s enterprise resource management information (Demir, pg.12). The information collected from both ends serves to advise the management of the organization on the effective marketing strateg...
