However, theater continues to dominate the arena with flawless plays recording ages which surpass our artistic understanding. Novelties like “Guerilla Theater” and “Flash Mobs” are sprouting and have swept the entertainment scene with a wave of artistic urban reframing public space through mobilization of people, which cannot be matched with any technological advancement like radio, films series, movies or sitcoms which is here today and gone tomorrow. Both "Guerilla Theater" and "Flash Mobs" are theatrical activities which have origin in the united state and are dramatically street theater performance. Both of these activities are publicly performed with the main aim of surprising in a spontaneous manner on unsuspecting audience within a given public space. The main objectives of both these activities are numerous depending on the occasion, as most are for pranks, political, entertainment, for commercial or television programs. This paper is going to review the main purposes and objective of “Flash Mobs” and “Guerilla Theater” from their historical view point. History of Flash Mobs and Guerilla Theater Among the two forms of theatrical performances Guerilla Theater is the oldest form of entertainment in this classification. Guerilla Theater was basically coined by Peter Berg after being suggesting as a title for an essay to his friend R.G. Davis in the year 1965. Literally Guerilla Theater was also referred to as Guerilla performance and the name depicts the form of performance which is associated with this form of theatrical plays. Originally formed within the jurisdiction of San Francisco Mime Troupe this performance bellied the Che Guevara spirit to which the term guerilla was borrowed. The main focus for this form of art was basically to instill revolutionary sociopolitical shift thematically (Durland, 34). The term “guerilla” was coined from a Spanish term which means “little war.” In this account Guerilla is depicted to be the spontaneous acts of surprising performance carried out in a public space to unsuspecting passerby. Guerilla Theater is usually associated with “Agitprop Theater” which was performed in the early 1930s, although there is slight distinction between the two through addition of the Dada performance tactics. The term Guerilla was inspired the infamous Che Guevara essay which attests “The guerilla soldier require assistance from the people….for from the beginning his uttermost intention is abolishing unjust order and reinstating the old with something new.” Both Davis and Peter were scholars of mime and modern dance in the early 1950s and unearthed commedia dell’arte. Later they formed San Francisco Mime Troupe with other twenty group member and parted in the year 1966 each forming his own collective known as diggers (Davis, 130). The origin of the first Flash Mobs was developed in Manhattan coined by Bill Wasik around May 2003 a senior Harper magazine editor. The first performance was unsuccessful after someone tipped the target retail market about the gathering. Though the second performance at Macy’s departmental store was a success after arrangement were scheduled minutes before the initial event to prevent tip offs. The group consisted of 130 people that met at the fourth floor of the rug department pretending to purchase a love rug as they lived together for 15 second and then disperse. Wasik later conveyed that the whole idea of creating the Flash Mob as a social experiment which aimed at making fun of hippies and emphasize on the cultural atmosphere of traditionalism and desire to be included in major big events (Wasik, 55).
