CONCERT ATTENDANCE – REPORT INFORMATION

Students are REQUIRED to attend a total of 4 concerts and provide proof of attendance

See separate document for Music Concert Instructions.

All concert reports are collected at the beginning of class. ONE of the required concerts may be a Student Recital. At least TWO must be concerts from the AU Music Dept.

Concerts sponsored by the Department of Music for Spring Semester 2018 may be found at auburn.edu/music.

Additionally, tickets for the event may be purchased online at auburn.edu/music/tickets. Tickets for students range from $5 - $10, and the concert venues include locations on the Auburn campus and performance venues in the Auburn/Opelika area.

Students may elect to attend APPROVED concerts in Atlanta, Montgomery, Columbus, etc. however, instructor approval must be requested at least 2 weeks prior to the event. Failure to get prior approval will result in the concert critique not being accepted.

Date Auburn university Concert Report The concert occurred on 5th February 2018 at Godwin Recital Hall of Auburn University at 7:30 p.m. Those involved are Rosephanye Powell (Soprano), Anne Duraski (mezzo soprano), Joshua Pifer (piano) and featuring Emma Dansak. The pieces were Barcarolle from les Contes D'hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach ,Two songs, Op. 91 Gestillte Sehnsucht and  Geistliches Wiegenlied by Johannes Brahms, Seven preludes-  by Alexander Scriabin, Duetto Buffo di due Gatti by Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868), Chants De France, Sèrie I  by Gioachino Rossini as well as Two spirituals there is a Balm in Gilead and 'Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit arranged by Rosephanye Powell. I liked that the performers chose a variety of work. Barcarolle from les Contes D'hoffmann was appropriate as the first piece and the pieces most appropriate for an opera. The tempo marking of the piece is ‘moderato’ or moderately. The barcarolle normally has the 6/8 meter representing the Venetian boatman songs and the s rhythms symbolize the rowing motion. The romantic grand opera has five acts, where the three middle acts represent the passion to love. The line between reality and fantasy is blurred when pursuing one’s love interests in the piece, and the work is inspired more by the French opera and it is varied and expressive.  In the second piece Op. 91 Gestillte Sehnsucht and Geistliches Wiegenlied, the first song highlights evening calmn...
