Apollo Belvedere Statue
Apollo Belvedere is an ancient marble sculpture that was sculptured in the period between 117 and 138 AD. Fine art is a representation of the classical era and having been rediscovered in Central Italy in 1511, and it was placed in the Vatican Palace, where it still resides (Grummond 144). Pythian Apollo is portrayed as a standing archer who has shortly shot an arrow and thrown his cloak above his left-side shoulder to portray his nakedness. The sculpture is a Roman duplicate of the ancient Greek bronze statue. It is thought that Leochares may have been the artist who sculptured the original bronze sculpture in the fourth century BC. Apollo Belvedere has barely admired the same manner. It was like an image of utter lucid precision of the Greek people and as perfect beauty.
Apollo is an embodiment of classical art and represents a few of the remaining artworks that were not destroyed. It represents a rich Greek and Roman culture that produced the best result of the combination of nature, mind, and art (Sanders 8). The structure uniquely perfects the human male figure to depict god Apollo. The position the figure, as shown in figure 1, realistically, stands not only represents a human figure but also in an avenging action that portrays Apollo as a poetry god. The art was brought in the collections of the Vatican, and Michaengulo suggested restoration of the sculpture to be done by one of his students. The statue was later restored after it was returned to the Vatican in 1815 to correct the restored arms. The statue stands among most arts due to its beauty rather than its historical lineage (Grummond 145). Understanding more about the art’s origin and the posture requires expounding on the archaic style and the relation to Apollo Belvedere.
The archaic style that is estimated to have lasted between 800-400 BCE was the beginning of most Greek art, and most structural works started to become more common (Sanders 7). Such similarity included frontal poses, slot in drapery, and nude statues. Dovetail drapery was mostly developed on female depictions while the male arts portrayed nudity. How does this relate to Apollo Belvedere? The Romans usurped the excellent Greek artworks and imitated statues. The arts could be imported together with architectural features.
