Overview
As is the case with many governments world over, the government of Australia has put in place various processes and procedure that dictate the manner on which the work industry is conducted. The Work Wizard Report in Australia outlines the mandatory requirements for every workplace including the minimum required working conditions. It also outlines requirements such as qualifications for each job category. The aim of this department is to streamline the entire workforce industry and to ensure that there is equality and fairness.
Recruitment
There is a standard procedure that is followed during recruitment. Although the process involved in between may vary from one job to another, the process followed is largely the same. Often the organization recruiting is required to advertise for the various positions available. This is to ensure that all interested persons have a fair chance to make applications for the job. For example, for Maria, the interviews are conducted by a doctor and an administration officers who are conversation with the job applied for. As for the job of a chauffeur in the case of Michael, there was a written and oral interview to gauge his communication skills. The second step is conducting of interviews after the shortlisting process is complete. Short listing takes place after the application window is closed. The candidates who are shortlisted are all those who come close to the desired qualifications to what the organization is looking for.
Training and Qualifications
This will vary from one job to another. However, as a standard procedure, a newly employed person must be taken through orientation and induction. This is partly to ensure that the employee acquaints themselves and becomes familiar with the working environment. Michael who was employed as a chuffer was taken through an induction. The requirements for his job are a valid license as a driver, accreditations and good communication skills. As for Maria, the hospital was not particular on specific qualifications other than the ability to communicate effectively.
Working Conditions
The Australian Government regulates the working conditions to ensure that employers are far top their employees. For instance, there is law on the minimum wage which means that every employer must pay within that bracket and nothing less than what is stipulated in law. Further, the government has imposed requirements such as the mandatory requirements of a factory or an ordinary workplace. Maria’s job involved working for 7 and half hours while Michael’s involved working for 12 hours. The compensation given to employees must be commensurate with the working hours provided.
Technology
In today’s working environment, pretty most of the jobs will involve use of technology of some kind.
