Place of War in the International Politics
International politics have been associated with war and conflicts, thus a critical problem for state relations. Some realism views war as a political continuation among states. In contrast, others view it as an end product of the contemporary international model with international institutions aiming to reduce conflict among states. In war, security is essential, but an argument arises about what security is. According to ken Booth, traditional realism associated society with being militarized, Cuban missiles, European integration, and decolonization.
However, theories cannot account for or explain the unprecedented occurrence in describing the origin of war. For instance, the neorealism theory by Kenneth waltz maintains that while explaining an idea, it involves different ends, factors, and effects. Relists consider power an end product, while neorealists see it as a possible means to war.
Generally, the basic definition of war is having the competitor do as a sovereign state wants. For instance, world war I and II aimed to sell common ideologies to the Europeans and America, which in turn created scarcity and competition of resources. This led to the great depression in America, in which President Roosevelt had to act to scavage the situation. There was a competition for available resources and division ideologies. In addition, in Europe, there was a division between east and west Germany which created a conflict of interest and led to the Berlin wall in Germany (Sylvester, 2012). It separated the two states, making West Germany richer than east German. Thus, after the world war, the introduction of nuclear weapons led to the cold war as every state feared what the other might do.
Further, to enhance peace and political relations, policies and bodies to maintain peace were formed to resolve the conflict between sovereign nations. Finally, however, Clausewitz formulated a formula by which countries could maintain stability. He argued that war is the continuation of policies, and by another model, policies are the continuation of war by other means. Conflict emerges when a state does not honor the formulated policies, leading to war( Kaldor,2010). For instance, the current war between Russia and Ukraine results from one party not following the agreed terms and policies, creating a misunderstanding between the two sovereign nations. Ukraine wanted to join Nato, but Russia was not for the ideologies, and considering Russia ruled Ukraine, there was an agreement not to join Nato and other foreign organizations. As a result, conflict of interest emerged and caused a worldwide crisis.
In addition, bodies such as the United Nations and Nato could not interfere with the conflict between Ukraine and Russia as the agreement does not allow interference even though they had the might. Interference by other nations would have led to possibly an eruption of world war III, which could be more intensified than world war ...
