1 How could ethnography be applied to the study of international relations?
Ethnography is one of the most effective tools in the study of International Relations. Since international relations usually involves the interaction with different people coming from different cultures and societies, understanding the cultures and norms where they come from can be crucial in fostering an atmosphere of trust between individuals. This is most especially the case for leaders whose interaction with different leaders in the world can severely affect the policies and the economy of their country.
Thus, this shows that ethnography can be used in the study of international relations by giving the leader or policy makers an idea about how to act, think, and perceive in times when they are dealing with leaders of foreign nation. For example, an ethnographer can guide a state leader or representative about possibly offensive gestures that might offend another leader without him knowing.
Aside from this, ethnography can also be used in the study of international relations by looking at how cultures respond to domestic policies (i.e., US Tariffs) that have an international effect.
