In the present epoch of information technology and spectrum of global exposure, each individual is persuaded by different factors, values, beliefs and opinions. Currently, it is difficult of determining if a real identity exists holistically in a particular community or society since social media has rationalised the information and knowledge sharing with people, regardless the cultural or sexual associations (Bellesia et al., 2019). Precisely, identity construction today became a complex phenomenon that varies with individuals distinctly due to their exposures towards global information, trends and practices.
Identity construction is a fundamental principle that defines an individual and society collectively. The concept is based on two critical spheres, namely, personal and social. Hence, the core objective of this paper is to discuss the concept of identity construction, followed by the involvement of personal and social spheres in the category of gender. Due to the emergence of different gender groups and emphasis on providing them equal rights, this category is selected purposely to understand the phenomenon of identity construction from personal and social spheres.

Identity Construction: A Brief Overview
The basic definition of identity construction is a simple phenomenon, which drives towards complexity once segregated into specified spheres, namely personal and social. By definition, identity construction refers to a set of different values, practices, beliefs and exposure of an individual a social problem or aspect, influenced primarily by pre-established cultural systems and preferred actions (Qazi & Shah, 2018). The cultural systems and independent actions taken by an individual towards a societal problem are based on self-perception and perceptions set by others in the surroundings. Identity is termed as a reference point for an individual. It serves as a basic description of an individual that attempts differentiating from others in the surroundings. However, the fundamental element of identity is constructed by different categories and subjects, such as gender, sexuality and class segregation. (Cao, 2019). This paper studies identity construction from the perspective of gender and the influence of personal and social spheres.
In the domain of identity construction, gender plays a fundamental and primary role in forming a reference point of recognition for an individual. Theoretically, gender identity is termed as personal recognition of one’s gender and related preferences. The category of gender identity is directly proportionate to the sexuality and social orientations of an individual. Due to immense exposure provided by technology and freedom of speech through social media, the social sphere of gender identity has shaped in constructing a reference point for individuals in the surrounding.
