Many discussions were made concerning the continuous increase in the population of the citizens of Australia. These talks include the consideration of different advantages and disadvantages that the population growth brings to society with regard to its socioeconomic status and the availability of its resources. Decades ago, in the history of Australia, the nation experienced issues with the country’s productivity resulting in the government and administration, encouraging the females and the elderly to join the country’s workforce. There was an imbalance between the number of abled-bodies capable of working and the number of extremes in terms of the young and the old. This means that there is a limitation when it comes to those who are working and contributing to the productivity of the country. The solution that Australia’s government decided on was to increase the country’s population, which was found to be useful for a few years, but later on, presented its own set of issues. Although there were benefits, I will argue that the continuous population growth that is occurring in Australia should already be restricted.
Laws Regarding Migrants and Childbirth
The strategy of the government in increasing the population was sufficient, and this was done by allowing migrants and encouraging pregnancies and childbirth. The recorded growth caused by these actions reached 1.6% per year. Life expectancy also lengthened by two years, further contributing to the population increase (Einarsdottir, Kristjana, et al.). Aside from migration, another factor that contributed to the trend in the population is the family policies implemented by the administration. These were the provision of funds for those who had their third or fourth child, and also those mothers who were considered young adults or early twenties. (Leigh)
