Aim of task 2 For you to learn to critically evaluate theories and issues.
Task Description You are required to produce three texts (300 words each, total 900 words+-10%) that critically reflect on theories and issues raised in the initial weeks of the subject, discussing their relevance for real world using your own examples. The three texts are to be submitted in ONE document. Across the three texts you must reference at least three academic sources, at least one MUST be from the subject reading list. The three texts are to be academic in tone and expression including referencing in the Harvard (UTS) style.

The article “Internet on the Outstation: The Digital Divide and Remote Aboriginal Communities” by Rennie et al. has provided insightful data and information about the rate of internet adoption among aboriginal communities in Australia. Ordinarily, it is common to have a poor internet connection and digital development among communities living in remote areas. Ideally, by 2011, it was estimated that only about four out of ten indigenous households in remote parts of Australia had a connection to the internet (Nedungadi et al., 2019). Ideally, the aboriginals live in small groups, and there are only a few permanent residents. The aboriginals have a culture of regular movement between townships, and this has an influence on communities’ conceptions regarding permanent connectivity.
It was evaluated that within the aboriginals, the social setting is highly embedded in the traditional structures. Individuals from these communities also stipulated that they do not have friends, only family members. Members from the communities also provided insights into how communications technologies have influenced peoples’ customs. After being provided with computers and free internet, different changes were witnessed in the community. For instance, people started using the internet for different reasons, such as making online transactions while others played computer games. The development of indigenous education has helped in the promotion of digital literacy (Prayaga et al., 2017). Additionally, access to the internet also promoted the use of other gadgets such as mobile phones and tablets. Development initiatives funded by community members have also promoted access to internet access.
This information about the development and use of internet among aboriginal communities in Australia matches initiatives that have been implemented to help in promoting digital literacy in remote communities in other parts of the word. For instance, countries such as India have developed frameworks that suit local populations. In India, the government is focused on keen on ensuring that over 60 million rural citizens are digitally literate, this will be crucial in ensuring that people have access to essential services through digital technology (United Nations Children’s Fund, 2017). Digital illiteracy is promoted due to the lack of programs and initiatives that are aimed at promoting the internet and computers to rural communities.
The article “Can we teach digital natives digital literacy?” by Wan Ng has examined knowledge about educational technology among students. The resource mainly focuses on digital natives, individuals whose lives are highly focused on digital-related technologies. It is necessary to note that the lives of such people revolve matters related to the internet (Shtepura, 2018). It is identified that digital natives were born during the digital age. However, most individuals born during this period have no skills for using technologies in learning activities, and they do not qualify to be regarded as digital natives.
