Most of us consume media products with little knowledge of the companies and organization behind their success. The audience is more interested in the stories detail like who won the Olympics and the latest dance move or movies. Several media advertisements on magazines, television, and radio like coca cola or Nescafe that appeals to us are meant to attract consumers to try out these products. The question is who owns these media houses and how do they benefit or who pays for music played on the radio.
Everyone is familiar with large media organizations like Time Warner and 20th-century fox that provides much of our entertainment. Newspapers and popular magazines use their brand to promote their publication, popular music companies have a label on their CD and establish and radio station to sell their brand in different parts of the world (Townend, 2015, p 83).
The commercial broadcast is an organized business entity; organizations create content targeting specific audience regularly within certain budgets. The production process is conducted using strict internal and external guidelines combined with institutional, professional, social and cultural standards. All commercial broadcasts are businesses that are involved in the commercial sphere of income generation (Wall, 2012, p 180).
Large commercial broadcasts like BBC or any other radio stations require money to maintain its operations. Programming and all their activities are geared towards generating income from somewhere to sustain them. The economic nature of media is the same as profit making organizations because all of them strive to maximize profit. Even though media organization operates in a similar economic environment, they respond to this environment differently based on which strategy they use (Wall, 2012, p 185).
