Business management presents many challenges, and each requires the flexibility and adaptability skills of the manager. The course educated us on how to confront the struggles faced by managers through the lessons on megatrends, strategy, marketing, and supply management.
The most helpful topics in class include marketing and human resource strategies, megatrends, and next big things (NBTs). One of the essential functions of marketing is the formation of marketing information systems (MIS), which helps gather comprehensive information from the external to the internal agents. These shall be used by the organization's leaders (Bahloul, 2011).
As a future supply chain manager (SCM), I can utilize the MIS to understand the demand for products in a particular period and match the number of supplies. For example, the MIS shows that annually, the month of July increases the sales on red-, white-, and blue-colored shirts. Knowing this, I can track if the surplus of supplies from the month of June will suffice the expected demand for July.
Next, human resource (HR) strategies are essential to gather trainable employees and prevent them from leaving. Gratton (2018) revealed that employees have gradually sought to continue knowledge in work, and they value companies that provide learning opportunities instead of those that only care about profit and not the people. As a future SCM, I need to coordinate with HR and apply strategies to improve my communication with my subordinates. Furthermore, strategies directed to enhance their learning, such as on-the-job training and feedback, can be utilized to improve the efficiency of the supply chain.
Third, we have studied the significance of megatrends in widening the scope of a company. Notably, we applied this to the Aristocrat Leisure Limited (ALL), which depended on globalization as its significant megatrend, where it pursued an international authority, driving companies to maintain their competitiveness in the gambling industry.
