The given image is the cover page of the magnum opus of Tartaglia: Nova Scientia or New Science. In this book, he tried to determine the nature of the motion of a cannonball fired from a cannon. The title page is an illustration of its contradictory or revolutionary view about the projectile motion of the cannonball, which negated Aristotle's concept of projectile motion. The Aristotelian theory claimed that a projectile motion is based on the mixture of a natural and violent motion. This purely philosophical view was contradicted by Tartaglia, who claimed that a projectile motion follows a curved path. Many of his observations endorsed his assumptions about the projectile motion of the cannonball. Two of such observations will be discussed here concerning this cover page.
