Personhood tends to vary from one society to another. This is based on the concept of selfhood, which can either be based on an egocentric view or a sociocentric view. In comparison, both concepts focus on defining personhood. A person can have both sides of identity. Societies can function with both sociocentric and egocentric aspects of personhood. The egocentric view suggests that personhood is independent of the group. The person can work without being influenced by society.
