The classical forms of architecture refers to the architectural norms arising from the rise of Greece to the fall of Rome as an empire. This period marked a renaissance in architecture, where the art of building design emerged as an art. Architecture was thought to not only be a theoretical art but with practical implications. In the new American Republic, the new nation begun to build public building to serve their needs. A key component was the prudent management of the public funds. However, it was also necessary to create buildings that were not only beautiful but ornate as well. Noting that public buildings would set the tone which private individuals would adopt in their buildings as well. Jefferson noted that the building were not merely objects of practicality but rather also embodied the American ideology. They were in a sense witnesses to the American experiment. Benjamin Henry Latrobe is credited as the father of American architecture. Noting that Latrobe was instrumental in the design of key building of the US e.g. part of the Capital building.
