Adaptive Plasticity of the Brain and Resilience
A lot of neuroscience literature defines brain plasticity as the ability of the brain to learn and also recover from any form of injury. Stiles (2000)suggested that there are three features that the numerous definitions of brain plasticity share The first feature is in reference to process of plasticity. In this context, plasticity is a dynamic or changing process employed by the neural system. This dynamic process causes change in both functional and structural levels of the brain. The second feature, adaptation, refers to the use of new or different channels to deal with stressors in the brain. The last feature, organization, refers to plasticity as a well-defined plan that is not haphazard. The organization of plasticity indicates that there is a strong correlation and interaction between the environment and structural features in the brain. Brain plasticity enables people to construct thoughts, make decisions, and interact with their immediate environment.
