In “Architecture and transgression” (1976) Bernard Tschumi argues that transgressing the normal set limits allows architects to explore the phenomenon of the spatial axis. Tschumi highlights the need to look into new spatial relationships since creativity often emerges when people go against the norm. Given that architects tend to be purists the case for exploring space in architecture is that it often results in innovative designs. Tschumi aims to highlight the role of transgressing boundaries, in order to show that new forms of built environments, architecture and praxis do not necessarily conform to the preconceived notions of space. The intended audience is architects especially theorists on art and architecture.
