A'.  How to make a start - Identifying an organisation

For this assignment you will work individualy. You need to identify an organisation of your choice. To do that, please follow the five steps in Figure 2 in the Venn-type diagram. It is important to follow those steps as it will help you to choose the most relevant company to your background, interests, and potentially future employability. Follow these steps to select a company:

1.   Identify the programme and specialisation you study.

  1. List the industries you would like to work for.
  2. Identify the companies you would like to work for, or you follow, or you think you could learn from and possibly apply this knowledge in your future job (the company does not need to have official ethical/sustainable approaches). Apple Inc. and Tesla Inc. are excluded from the coursework, please do not select either of these two companies.
  3. Add the geographical locations of your interest (if there are any).
  4. Finally, by integrating the 4 points above, you will be able to identify the main organisation you will carry on analyses and assessment in terms of commercial technology development. You must ensure first that the company has available data, reports, a website etc. It is most likely that this company is an engineering company or has an engineering/technical department. If the company has limited information available (might be too small, very new, start-up}, do not use it as it will not help you with the data and hence affect the mark of you coursework. tf that is the case repeat the process until you find a suitable company.

You will require to read and research about the particular business company you chose. You will need to understand well the company's vision, strategy and market. You need to gain a general understanding of the enterprise and business topic and the ability to identify the company's sustainability approach, and carry out analysis on the technological, economic, environmental issues as well as risks.
