Difference between machine and tool
Machines have significantly shaped the world into a safer and better place. Ranging from simple devices such as lever, axle, screw, wheel, inclined plane and wedge, to complex machines such as bulldozer, sewing machine, escalator, motor vehicle and clippers, have made the work of human easier (Uicker et al., 2003). While a machine is an assembly of mechanisms clustered together to perform particular tasks by using hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic power thus reducing human effort and intervention; a tool is a device that uses human effort to make work easier such as scissors, fork, screwdriver, hammer, to mention a few (Mechanisms and Simple Machines, 2020).
Difference between a mechanism and a machine
Since the dawn of history, people have created machines and mechanisms. For example, the ancient Egyptians used primitive machines to build pyramids and other monuments. A mechanism is a group link linked together by joints to form a kinematic chain – an assemblage of joints and links, with one link fixed to transmit motion and force. In a nutshell, it is a design to a specific motion (Mechanisms and Simple Machines, 2020). On the other hand, a machine is an accumulation of links convey and convert forces, energy and action in a particular manner to do work (Uicker et al., 2003).
Technical objects that are not tools, machine or mechanism
Although most of the technical objects can be classified as either machine, tools or mechanisms, others do not squarely fit in either of the categories such as drill press, gear shaper, Lathe, broaching machine and hobbing machine. These technical objects are commonly referred to as machine tools – and are used to manufacture various components using a subtractive cutting process. Typically, they are used in conventional grinding or machining on metal and other brutal to form materials (Liu et al., 2019).
How lathe and gear shaper works, and reasons why it is not a machine, tool or mechanism
Lathe machine is used in shaping material pieces into the desired shapes. By rotating one piece on the axis, lathe machine can perform various task...
