Worker’s goals are often part of the labor industry as they work towards having them being implemented through various measures. In the past decades, powerful worker’s unions were crucial in voicing goals of workers within the labor industry and they would be heard by their employers. However, in recent years, organization of workers has been disintegrated thus losing their voice as well as their goals often ignored by employers (Munck, 2019). In working towards workers goals, there appears to be a contradiction with environmental goals. Environmental goals often call for preservation and nurturing of the environment to guarantee its continual support of life on earth. Therefore, it is difficult to implement both goals of workers and environment as they will have devastating effects on each other. The major cause of this conflict can be identified to capitalism while the key areas of conflicts include differing objectives, opposing approaches, and different strategies in achieving their goals.
The capitalism concept has led to more harm than good in society as cases of inequality continues to increase. In its basic implementation, capitalism involves exploitation of the available resources for maximum productivity and profits in their operations. Therefore, in regards to workers goal, capitalism heavily relies on workers to increase its productivity and achieve its set target. The increased productivity of businesses has various negative effects on the goals of the environment at large. The conflict of worker’s rights and environmental rights is established through the capitalism model where workers are overexploited by the employers and the natural resources are plundered from the environment (Hall, n.d.). Based on this perspective, it appears that capitalism negatively impacts both workers and environment when carrying out the various operations. However, a closer analysis of the situation reveals that capitalism approach of exploitation of resources provides job opportunities in the industry as more people are employed to meet with the increased demand or increased production capacity. Based on the significant opposing goals of workers and environment, working together will yield minimal positive impacts if any, but in most cases, it is expected to fail.
One of the reasons why workers goals are in conflict with environment goas is based on the different objectives of each group. On one hand, the goals of workers are relevant to their positions and roles in the labor industry. Being dissatisfied with the capitalism mode of business in modern society, the goals of workers are asking for better wages, better working conditions, and various benefits attached to their work responsibilities and roles. These objectives are in line with the demands of workers, therefore, working towards them will ensure that their needs are met. On the other hand, environment activists are promoting the essential goals of the environment and how society can contribute to meeting of the goals.
