Groupwork has been one of the strategies employed to facilitate quality learning among students. During my course work, I have worked with a group of students, and we have shared and discussed different perspectives and understanding of our course. According to Zhang (2018), members of a group actively participate in sharing their knowledge and understanding.
Our group has been characterised by various group work behaviours. One, there has been strong solidarity among members of the group. Every member of the group understands that the success of our work depends on our ability to work together. As such, members have cooperated to ensure that we achieve the group's goal. For instance, group meetings outside the class require people to meet at an agreed time. In some cases, meetings might be delayed or postponed because a group member was held up somewhere. However, in our group, members have made an effort to stop whatever they are doing so that they can be in the meeting at the agreed time. According to Palsson et al. (2017), such a level of cooperation enhances collaboration among group members and promotes problem-solving.
Two, differences in opinions are championed. Like any other group, we have had differences of opinions not only on how a certain concept taught in class can be applied in our practice but also on how to go about accomplishing our group goals. By encouraging differences of opinions, members of the group have learned that each opinion matters, and we have become more respectful of everyone's opinion. To be honest, this was quite difficult in the beginning because most of us believed that our opinions are better. There was a lot of clashing and arguing, which ended up consuming too much of the time dedicated to finishing assignments. However, with time, we have become better.
