Volunteer Journal #4: Problem Solving Name Institutional Affiliation Volunteer Journal #4: Problem Solving Day, date, Time Q1 One of the challenges that I faced consistently during my volunteer experience was having the opportunity to actively participate in helping out. This problem stemmed from the fact that my background as a dental hygienist proved to be minimally beneficial in a mental health facility. Because of this, I had difficulty integrating with the teams that I was assigned, and to some degree this limited the experiences that I accumulated during my time as a volunteer. However, by engaging in an involving process that examined where the barriers to my involvement were (mainly in communication), I was not only able to communicate them, but also overcome them. Critical thinking and analysis proved to be highly beneficial insofar as solving this problem was concerned. Q2 Upon starting my time as a volunteer, I initially felt as though I was an outsider, purposely because I could not get along well with the teams of psychologists that I had been assigned to. At first, I had concluded that our failure to work collaboratively had been as a result of our differences in background and how they affected our perspectives when it came to problem solving and collaboration. However, I later established that the organizational culture along with poor communication channels in the interprofessional and intraprofessional capacities had been the cause of the problems I experienced.
