Using Survey Research: What Are You Planning To Do After Campus?

Essay Instructions:

Using Survey Research
Survey research is one of the most important research methods in applied social research. Researchers use surveys to uncover associations and patterns by looking at variation in variables across cases and identifying characteristics that are systematically linked among them. Although traditionally regarded as a nonexperimental and descriptive research method, survey research actually may be used for descriptive, explanatory, and exploratory research purposes.
Broadly, survey research involves gathering data from respondents thought to be representative of some population, using an instrument composed of closed structure or open-ended questions. It allows efficient collection of data over broad populations, and is amenable to administration in person, by telephone, and over the Internet.
To prepare for this Discussion, consider ways in which survey research may be used for descriptive, explanatory, and exploratory research purposes related to your Final Project topic. Also, think about open-ended and closed-ended questions you might potentially include in a survey for your Final Project topic.

Survey research
Survey research is one of the most efficient ways of data collection having been in use for centuries. Researchers have used it for various purposes, for instance, to establish the behavior simply by looking at variations in the behavior. Exploratory survey
It can be defined as the first attempt to research into a theory or hypothetical idea. It is whereby a researcher has an idea about something or has observed it and now seeks to understand more (Bachman, & Schutt, 2014). This type of project is attempt to lay the foundation that will progress to future studies or to find out if what is being observed can be proven by existing theory. In most cases, the results for this type of research are used to lay the initial groundwork for purposes for future research. It can be used to explain human behavior and learning. In most cases, it has been used to explain certain theories and their credibility. In some cases, some theories have been proven wrong and some cases the method of the survey has failed to produce convincing reasons, but this depends on the obstacles.
Open-ended question
What are you planning to do after campus?
Closed-ended question
Have you ever been to the dean’s office?
Descriptive research
This type of research is more focused on exploring and explaining while at the same time providing additional information to a subject. It is whereby the researcher tends to fill in the missing parts while expanding the understanding of individuals (Dattalo, 2010). Additionally, the researcher provides more detailed information.
