On November 1, 2004, Ontario's health-specific privacy legislation came forth in the form of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). The policy was created to govern how personal health information be handled henceforth. It involves the processes of collection, use, and the liberty of disclosure within the health sector. Consequently, there was a regulation on health information custodians together with individuals and organizations that have access to personal health information of any kind.
I agree with the findings as I share that an individual is entitled to a right to privacy. PHIPA gives you the freedom to know how your information will be used during or after treatment CITATION IPC21 \l 1033 (IPC, 2021). A patient will require to have beforehand knowledge for the reasons of collection, use, and what level of disclosure will be associated with the information. The notification is also required if there is loss or unauthorized access to the information at any point. By the end of the exchange, the patient is allowed to refuse giving consent for any collection or disclosure of the data.
PHIPA creates a consistent approach to which personal information is protected in the health sector. The main reason for its creation was to give the citizens more control over how their personal health information was used. It manages to balance the apparent factor that the collection of personal health information is needed to further research into new treatments and cures.
