For the Module 3 SLP assignment you will be again be applying the concepts from the background materials to your own personal experiences. You can write about the same supervisor you wrote about in Modules 1 and 2, or choose a different supervisor that you worked with and got to know well.
Carefully review the concepts and definitions of charismatic, transformational, and transactional leadership. Then write a 2- to 3-page paper addressing the following issues using specific examples from your personal experiences:
1. Describe a situation you experienced in the workplace when a current or past supervisor used a transformational or charismatic approach to motivate their employees. Was it effective?
2. Describe a situation you experienced in the workplace when a current or past supervisor used a transactional approach to motivate their employees. Was it effective?
3. Based on what you’ve read for this class so far as well as from your own experience working with different supervisors, do you think transformational and charismatic leadership can be learned or do you think it something you are born with? To support your answer, use both of the following: your personal experiences and references from the required background materials.

Transformational leadership is all about executing the required changes in tandem with committed members of a team or group (Avery, 2011). For this purpose, the leader of the group has to collaborate with everyone so that work-related problems are identified and their solutions are provided on an immediate basis. Before joining this new company, I got a chance to work in an IT firm where my group members and I were tasked to develop new programs, software, and tools for healthcare centers. Mr. X was the leader of our group, who used to encourage everyone to get inspiration from the outside world. For example, once we were asked to develop a program to diagnose chronic diseases at a fast speed, and this task was not so easy. However, Mr. X took us into confidence that nothing was going to be wrong and encouraged us to develop a trial version of the software in the beginning so that the customer could check its authenticity and reliability before receiving the final product. The style of Mr. X’s transformational leadership was unique and impressive, as he motivated us to work hard and not to get confused during the work. As a role model for the team, Mr. X inspired everyone and raised our interest in the project; he challenged us to take greater ownership for the work and understood our strengths and weaknesses, giving us enough room for improvement. His transformational approach proved to be fruitful as we were able to develop the software within days. Amazingly, the customer liked the trial version and then asked us to submit the final product as early as possible, which was indeed a big success for our group.

Transactional leadership, also known as transactional management, is a unique style of leadership that focuses on the performance, organization, and supervision (Gautier, 2016). This approach is used by leaders, heads or managers of companies to decide rewards and punishments for employees. At our company, there is a strict system of work and employees are asked to accomplish their tasks by or before the deadline. However, this does not mean they are pressurized all the time.
