Symbolic Interactionism and the Social Conflict Theory
Symbolic interactionism is one of the paradigms that define how individuals perceive and act on their circumstances based on their environment interaction. Particularly, this theory focuses on the micro-level and believes that individuals generate ‘symbols’ through interaction with one another. In turn, these symbols are then used by the same individuals to perceive and interact with one another and their immediate environment. In line with this, the process of creating symbols is generally believed to be through the use of communication, since it is the main process unto which interactions are done between individuals. Thus, the reason why societies create a established cultural pattern is because those living immediately with one another shares the same process of symbol creation.
