Summary of the Burden of History

Essay Instructions:

The summary and critique is 5 pages long. Part of the point of the assignment is to summarize and critique succinctly.
THIS IS A SUMMARY AND A CRITIQUE PAPER. THE PAPER WILL BE BASED ON THE DOCUEMENT I ATTACHED NOT OUTSIDE RESOURCES
The critique is a bit tougher, but again, this is part of the challenge of the assignment. Although you may get lucky and get inspired immediately, the only other way to come up with a critique is to read and think about the source for a while. This assignment thus gauges your ability to analyze text. There are several kinds of critique you can make:
a) Citing factual inaccuracies (the author gets their facts wrong). For this kind of critique I would like you to do more than just listing mistakes, you should explain why they are mistakes and try to see if these mistakes are indicative of a bigger problem, bias, etc.
b) Citing contradictions (the author says two things that conflict with each other). Again, citing the contradiction is not enough, you have to try to understand how it happened (e.g. how the author’s assumptions led to contradictions) or show how the contradiction harms the author’s argument.
c) Criticizing the scope of the argument (the author leaves out important information). Be very careful with this kind of critique, as the readings for the course are often part of a larger source, you don’t want to critique an author for something they address later in the source.
d) Demonstrating that the article is confusing or misleading (the author didn’t write very well). This kind of critique is also difficult; sometimes a source is confusing as you simply haven’t understood it. Make sure you have clear and well described reasons for claiming that an author is confusing or misleading. This is a good critique to use if you think the author has a hidden agenda.
e) Citing arguments that invalidate the author’s conclusions (the author’s argument is wrong as someone else has presented new or challenging evidence). As you don’t have a lot of room, this kind of critique is tricky, but not impossible. It is good as it forces you to consider other sources, and it can frequently be easier than coming up with your own critique. Just be sure to cite the source of your arguments when you do this.
f) Criticizing the relevance of the argument (saying that it doesn’t matter). This is also risky, but sometimes the author is making a point that is not that significant. You should only use this sort of critique if you feel that the author’s argument is not relevant, even by his or her own standards.
Another general point is that you can look for book reviews of the source in question in order to find critiques, but you MUST be sure to properly reference these sources if you choose to use them. I want your opinion in a critique, not just other people’s ideas. You can refer to yourself in a paper (I believe, etc.), but you must make sure to back up your beliefs with good arguments and well-researched facts.
Be sure to be fair to the author in question, if you think they are wrong you should have an argument as to why they are wrong, pointing a finger alone does nothing. Do not criticize authors for things they could not have known, or for things that are irrelevant to their topic.
Be sure that your critique is relevant to the course. This class focuses on the anthropogenic impacts of human populations on the environment from antiquity to present day, so there is a lot of scope, but the critique must touch on some environmental issue, and it would be best if it could involve some aspect of science and or technology.
Finally, individual periodic spelling mistakes did not lose you any marks, but in the aggregate they can lead to lost marks. The general criteria is comprehensibility, if it is difficult to understand what you mean then there is a problem.
The balance of the assignment should be about 2/3 summary and 1/3 critique, so approximately 3 pages of summary and two pages of critique (double spaced, 1 inch margins and 12 point font). As this is a short assignment, I don’t expect a formal bibliography, but if you cite more than one or two sources other than the main source, you might want to attach a bibliography page to the assignment. Please be sure to give page references to your source in the summary where required
Please have the paper done correctly as i have a very stressful past with the writer. All details are written in the description.
This is a SUMMARY AND A CRITIQUE PAPER. Critique is clearly explained in the description . Paper should be summarized and the main arguments must be mentioned in the paper. NO OUTISDE SOURCES THE ESSAY THE PAPER SHOULD BE ABOUT IS attachED . PLEASE ASK IF THERE IS ANYTHING NOT CLEAR. I need to get an A in this paper.

Summary and Critique Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Summary and Critique For a very long time, electrical industry especially manufacturers of electric vehicles have failed to live to the expectations of the consumers of its products. History paints a picture of innovations that not only are inadequate but incommensurate with the expectations of the consumers of their products. While some scholars hold the view that significant progress has been made in many of the technologies that constituted electric vehicle system, others think otherwise. Analysis and assessment of the existing literature is therefore necessary to ascertain the veracity of the authors’ varying arguments. In this paper I will provide a summary and critique of an existing literature through a detailed analysis and assessment of the text. Summary of the Burden of History Demand for Better Battery Energy storage technology is one of the innovations that bothered the actors in the electric industry as well as the consumers of their products. There was an increasing need for better or improved energy storage especially for vehicles. The yearning for technological advancement particularly on battery storage technology is traced to as early as 1880s and 1090s (The Burden of History, 2019). The consumers expected the industry to come up with innovative ideas that could translate into better energy storage for vehicles. In 1902, lead-acid battery was the widely used energy storage. However, there was increasing demand for alternative of the lead-acid battery. Consumers continue to yearn for powerful and durable alternative to lead acid battery. The industry responded to the market conditions and started manufacturing electric vehicles. These vehicles however did not meet the expectations of the consumer. Instead, internal combustion vehicles witnessed improvements that had never been seen before. Electric vehicles on the other hand did not deliver on the expectations of the consumer (The Burden of History, 2019). Later, Exide and Exide Ironclad design inventions improved the battery performance. It was an improvement on the first-generation vehicle batteries which were lighter and durable. However, in a nutshell, the improvement did not deliver on the ultimate promise of technological advancement. Consumer expectation plays a critical role on the advancement and spread of technology. Economic historian, Nathan Rosenberg argues that there is a relation between inventive activity and spread of new technology especially during the period of technological advancement. It is difficult to invest on new inventions and innovation if there is a fear of that technology becoming obsolete in the near future. As such, expectations of the consumer shape the success of innovation. Hamilton Watch Company is the perfect demonstration that expectation plays an important role on technological advancement. The company manufactured the first digital wrist watch which cost $ 2100.Despite the demonstrated technological improvement, the company did not make significant returns as envisaged. The reason is because consumers were willing to wait for a year or so for the price to fall by a factor of 10 or 100. This is due to fear of technological obsolescence. Subsequently, no com...
