Jeannine, I agree with your argument that we need regulations on caffeine use. Products and foods containing caffeine are accessible and legal to children. The Food and Drugs Administration estimates that an intake of 400mg per day is safe for an adult and 40ml for a child. However, manufacturers do not list the amount of these products. Therefore, when children take caffeine products such as soft drinks and candy, they are likely to suffer increased anxiety, sleeplessness, and increased appetite leading to obesity. It can also constrict their blood vessels and worsen cases of arrhythmia (Temple, 2009, p. 794-795).
Yolanda, I feel that regulation and legislative actions on use of caffeine is unwarranted. According to Levinthal, in 2000, research indicated that consumption of caffeine from any source led to reduced risks of Parkinson’s disease to men and postmenopausal women. Further, it stated the more individuals in these groups increased caffeine intake the superior the protection (Levinthal, 2016, p. 222). Therefore, regulating its use may hinder such paramount benefits.

Aileen, you have adequately described crack and powder cocaine. The punishment for use and possession of these two are different and should remain so. Thus, smoking crack cocaine requires large amounts to increase the period of the effects. Thus, results in more use and addiction as compared to powdered cocaine hence, need stricter punishment.
Crack cocaine and powdered cocaine should receive similar punishment. As Jeannine argues, the two are derived from coca plants and powder cocaine produced through combining coca and hydrochloric acid making a powder taken by snorting or injecting.
