Based on your readings, what role would TTX play in understanding our environment and risks?
The TXX is a facilitated scenario based exercise that helps to assess the protective measures of a potential scenario in the practice environment, and helps identify gaps in security (Marzonie, 2012). TXX is necessary in identifying security gaps as participants test the emergency risk and communicate the information to relevant authorities. The personnel are also better prepared when they know what to expect, their roles and responsibilities when there is assessment of potential risks and hazards (Agboola, McCarthy, & Biddinger, 2013). TXX exercises also increases safety knowledge and improves preparation among participants since there is emphasis on identifying security gaps and using test procedures that ensure continued improvement.
If you had to prepare a TTX what would you design one for? Be specific and concise. Create an outline of what you prepare for a TTX.
Preparing a table top exercise for a health emergency would follow similar strategies to other exercises, but efforts are made to modify these exercises to address the public health concerns. There is a need to address coordinated response identified in an emergency plan when undertaking the top table exercises (Fowkes et al., 2010).
Identifying the hypothetical scenarios
The case for improving surveillance among health providers and hospitals is necessary to address health problems, and this requires staff engagement, communication with stakeholders and capacity building efforts.
Facilitating discussions on the issue
The participants identify the strengths and weaknesses of different proposals on addressing outbreaks
Making decisions
The decisions made are dependent on identifying the key vulnerabilities and best ways to address them.
Enhancing open communication with the local health providers and departments to determine the processes they used to notify stakeholders about the health situation
Responding and implementing the action plan
The group facilitator coordinates activities during the implementation of the plan and summarizes the relevant information.
The participants learn different things, and providing the exercise evaluation forms is necessary to assess the situation and make changes.
