Structural theory Name Professor Date The structural theory is a sociological theory which tries to explain the reasons that make a society to function the way it does. Structural functionalism is focused on the relationship between various social institutions for example government, religion and education. This approach views the society as a structure whose parts are organized to inspire harmony, (Brown, 2013). It emphasizes that social structures like family and religious organizations are the ones that shape how individuals live. Each social structure has its own social function for the operation of the society as a whole. Structural functionalism depicts the society to be constantly determined to gain a state of equilibrium. It proposes that there is an integral drive in the human society to stick to each other. Social structures of the society encourage the community to strive towards equilibrium and not through the dictatorship of the leaders of the society, (Mulkay, 2014). Structural functionalism shows how social institutions meet the social needs of individuals within the society.
