Everyone has engaged in stereotyping others in one way or the other. Most of the time, people do it unknowingly and brand a certain group of people or consider a certain group of people to be depicting a particular trait. However, before one is shown how they do it, it becomes difficult to recognize or discover oneself in the act. For me, I was surprised to find out that I am one of the people who stereotype others and some of the things I say or believe about other people form my judgment of these people. Stereotyping leads to us forming permanent pointers which then lead or guide us in what we do and in the decisions we make. It is quite dangerous, and if one is not careful, they may find themselves believing in the stereotypes they hold.
While walking along the streets of any city, I always avoid or run away from people who walk in groups. A few years ago, a friend of mine was mugged by a group of people in broad daylight, and since that incident, I always find a way to avoid groups in towns or wherever I am. I came to believe that any group of people walking in groups is up to no good and therefore, to avoid the same fate as my friend, I have to find other routes. Aside from the above, I have also come to detest people who give excuses regardless of whether they are genuine or not. As I was growing up, giving excuses was one thing my father was against, and he expected everyone to finish their chores and assignments in time. Opportunities were awarded to those who had something to say or new information to convey and not to give excuses. My father associated excuses with laziness...
